Bears Volleyball Finishes 7th at NJCAA Tournament

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Dallas College Brookhaven's volleyball team finished seventh at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Tournament Saturday.
The Bears, who finished the season with a 15-17 record, beat Monroe College – Bronx, 25-16, 25-5, 25-18, at Alliant Energy Powerhouse to cap a 2-2 tournament showing.
Brookhaven's Caroline Simpson had nine kills, three aces, two blocks and a .364 attack percentage. Laila Beck finished with nine kills, two blocks, eight digs and a .375 hitting percentage. Jordan Bruscato had 29 assists, eight of the Bears' 16 aces, and a block assist. Remington McCarty finished with six kills, while hitting .357. Madison Beasley had seven kills and a block assist. Trynity Hicks had 10 digs.
Monroe – Bronx's Lisanel Rodriguez had 14 kills, eight digs and a block assist, while hitting .273.
The Bears hit .304, while the Express (23-4) had a .113 attack rate. Brookhaven hit .522 in the second set, putting down 12 balls without committing an error in 23 swings.
Brookhaven never trailed in the match, and only surrendered one ace. The Bears were blocked just once.
It was Brookhaven's 15th trip to the NJCAA Division III Tournament. The Bears won national titles in 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009.
