BATAVIA, N.Y. – Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer team fell to Mohawk Valley Community College, 3-1, in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III semifinals Friday night.
It snapped a 14-game unbeaten streak for the second-seeded Bears (12-3-3). Brookhaven will play fourth-seeded Suffolk County Community College (11-2-3) for third place 12:30 p.m. CT Sunday at Genesee Community College. Third-seeded Mohawk Valley advances to the national championship against No. 1 Delta College.
Isabella Kleban scored in the 42nd minute to give Mohawk Valley (10-1-3) the lead. Pazia Grocholski had the assist.
The Hawks took the one-goal lead into halftime.
Krista Panko scored twice within a 54-second span in the second half to extend Mohawk Valley's lead to 3-0. Kleban assisted on both goals.
Brookhaven's Maradith Baker scored on a penalty kick with 31 seconds remaining, but it was too late to put together a comeback.
The Bears outshot the Hawks, 18-6. Brookhaven had four shots on goal, and Mohawk Valley three.
Hawks goalkeeper Arisa Bolton made three saves.
