FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – It's a new year, but the same script unfolded.
Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer team will play for another title after beating Dallas College Eastfield, 4-0, Thursday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District semifinals. The top-seeded Bears (10-2-3) will host second-seeded Dallas College Richland (9-3-2) for the district championship at noon Saturday.
It marks the third straight year the two Dallas Athletic Conference powers will meet in the title match. It's also the ninth consecutive year Brookhaven reached the district championship.
Kate Carlson scored two goals, and Daniela Porto had a goal and two assists for the Bears, who recorded their sixth straight shutout. They have nine clean sheets this season.
Brookhaven put 13 of its 25 shots on goal, cashing in twice in each half.
Carlson scored the first goal in the 13th minute on a pass from Porto. She picked up her second goal on a penalty kick three minutes later.
It was Carlson's first two-goal game as a Bear. She has four goals this season – three of which have come against Eastfield.
With nine minutes remaining in the match, Porto fielded a pass from Gianna Antovoni, and found the back of the net to make it 3-0. Gracie Murillo tacked on another goal five minutes later on assists from Porto and Mariah Lewis.
Porto has scored all four of her goals this year in the last four games. She also has four of her seven assists this season during that stretch. Thursday was her first two-assist game this year. Murillo has five goals this year.
It is the second straight year Brookhaven beat Eastfield in the semifinals.
