Men's Hoops Upends Second Top 5 Opponent, Beating Eastfield at Home

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Make that two Top 5 teams that have fallen victim in the Bears' Den.

Dallas College Brookhaven men's basketball team knocked off National Junior College Athletic Association Division III No. 5  Dallas College Eastfield, 86-85, Saturday. It was the second consecutive Saturday the Bears have beaten a Top 5 team, both wins coming against Dallas Athletic Conference opponents at Brookhaven. Both victories were also decided by one possession.

The Bears beat then-No. 4 Dallas College Richland, 89-87, in the conference opener a week earlier.

Brookhaven (7-12, 2-1 DAC) shot 51 percent from the field, going 34 of 67. The Bears assisted on all but seven of their field goals. The Bears' 27 assists were the second most this season.

Brookhaven's Aaron Ovalle had 24 points and nine rebounds, while canning five three-point field goals. He was 9 of 16 from the field. Jackson Lino scored 23 points on 10 of 15 shooting, and had seven rebounds, three blocks and a steal for the Bears, who led, 48-47, at halftime. Curtis Trey Moffett scored 20 points, had six assists, five rebounds and a block. He was 7 of 11 from the floor, and 6 of 8 from the free throw line. Jesse Klein had 10 points, four rebounds and a block. Ryan Nurenberg had a season-high 10 assists. Andre Mancilla grabbed six boards.

Eastfield (16-4, 2-1) suffered its first league loss.

The Bears will play at Dallas College Mountain View 6 p.m. Wednesday, and will host Dallas College Cedar Valley 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Harvester Bees host Richland 6 p.m. Wednesday, and visit Dallas College North Lake 1 p.m. Saturday.
