Brookhaven eSports Season Ends in Playoffs

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven's League of Legends team advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association eSports playoffs, following a 4-3 regular season.

Johanys Badillo (Top Laner), Philip Le (Jungler), Matthew Galindo (Mid-Laner), Crystalynne Pham (ADC) and Jazzlyn Myre (Support) fell to No. 1 Heartland Community College, 3-0, in the first round of the Tier 1 playoffs. It was the second straight semester the Bears' eSports team qualified for the NJCAAe playoffs under first-year coach Grant Brady.

Brookhaven beat Iowa Western Community College to qualify for the playoffs, where the Bears drew the top-ranked team in the country.

"It was long and close games, but we could not ultimately secure the win," Brady said. "We were grateful we ended our semester together as a team, playing at GG EZ PC Café, and celebrated a semester of hard work."

Brookhaven's Super Smash Brothers' team of Bryan Marquez and Kevin Perez finished with fourth and seventh place finishes, respectively. Marquez went 6-4 this season, while Perez was 2-5, in the eight-team field.

"After exceeding expectations in Tier 3 last semester, all players moved into Tier 1 and faced some of the best the NJCAAe can offer," Brady said. "We learned a lot, and look forward to the next competition."
