Brookhaven Takes Series from No. 2 Eastfield

MESQUITE, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven's baseball team knocked off No. 2 Dallas College Eastfield in the first two games of a three-game series, winning 12-4 and 7-2 to finish the first half of Dallas Athletic Conference play.
The Bears (21-18, 9-6) became the first league opponent to hand the No. 2 nationally-ranked Harvester Bees (33-6, 13-2) a loss in the conference. The Bees won the third game 10-2.
Brookhaven scored four runs in the first inning of the series opener. After Eastfield cut it to 6-4 in the top of the sixth, the Bears tacked on four more in the bottom half of the inning, and put the game away with a couple runs in the eighth.
Isaiah Nava went 3 for 4 with a double. Bradley Boedeker was 3 for 3 with a double and two RBI. Aiden Corey had a hit, a sacrifice fly and drove in three runs. Payton Stephenson drove in two runs, while going 1 for 3 with a walk. Mason Gilliam had a hit, and drove in a run.
Eastfield's Sebastian Palma was 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI. Angel Gutierrez had three hits, and drove in a run.
Clayten Mixon (6-0) allowed four runs on seven hits, and struck out two in five innings to get the win on the mound.
In the second game, the Bears got out to a 6-1 lead after five innings before adding another in the sixth. The Harvester Bees were held to one run the rest of the way as Oliver Overlin (6-2) worked the final five innings, allowing four hits, an unearned run and four walks, while picking up two strikeouts.
Brookhaven's Phillip Orr was 2 for 5 with three RBI. Boedeker collected three doubles in five trips to the plate. Mason Gilliam went 1 for 3, and scored twice. Palma had two of Eastfield's six hits.
Bears starter Noah Ferraro pitched four innings, allowing a run, two hits and a walk.
Eastfield blew Game 3 open with eight runs in the fifth inning to race to a 10-run advantage. The Bears picked up both of their runs after, but it wasn't enough.
Cyler Moore, Orr, Stephenson and Corey accounted for the Bears' four hits in the series finale. Eastfield's Drew Saenz and Joshua Blanco each had two hits and two RBI. Palma drove in a pair with a pair of sacrifice flies, and doubled.
Harvester Bees starter Ryan Dyer (3-0) worked the first seven innings, scattering three hits, and allowing an unearned run and two walks, while fanning five. Jason Miller went the final two innings, giving up a run, two hits and a walk, and struck out four. Brookhaven's Brayden Haranda pitched an inning of scoreless relief.
Brookhaven (21-18, 9-6 DAC) begins the second half of conference play noon Wednesday at Dallas College North Lake (16-23, 7-8).
