Dallas College Cedar Valley
FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven made its way to the .500 mark, following a dominating 10-0 run-rule victory over Dallas College Cedar Valley in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament Wednesday.
The Bears (26-26) advance to Thursday's double-elimination round to play No. 6 nationally-ranked Dallas College Richland (37-18) at Dallas College Eastfield. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m., but weather conditions may alter that.
Brookhaven scored five runs in the second inning, catapulted by Bo Dinscore's three-run home run, to take a 6-0 lead. It was Dinscore's 12th home run of the season. He went 1-for-3.
The Bears scored three more in the third, and starter Slayde Berry kept the Suns (31-26) off balance all day, surrendering one hit and three walks, while fanning four in the shutout. It was his first shutout of the season, and he improved to 4-7 this year.
Caden Roeschen went 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI in a game where the top eight hitters in the lineup recorded a hit for Brookhaven. Ray Jaramillo was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a walk. George Sheppard doubled, walked and drove in a run.
Wednesday's win marks the Bears' first in postseason play in three years, and avenged last year's 13-1 five-inning loss to Cedar Valley in the district opener.
