Brookhaven Topples No. 14 Thunderducks for First DAC Win

DALLAS – Dallas College Brookhaven's baseball team beat 14th-ranked Dallas College Richland, 14-10, Saturday in the final game of a three-game series.

It was the Bears' first Dallas Athletic Conference victory this season.

Trailing 7-4 after three innings, Brookhaven (10-12, 1-5 DAC) scored three runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Richland (15-8, 5-1) picked up a run in the bottom half of the inning to reclaim the lead. The Bears knotted the score again, 8-8, in the fifth, and then went up 10-8 in the sixth.

After the Thunderducks scored once in the bottom of the sixth, the Bears responded with three more in the seventh to take a 13-9 lead. Richland picked up a run in the eighth, but Brookhaven closer Caleb Kennedy kept the Thunderducks' bats silent in the ninth to seal the victory.

Bears first baseman Bo Dinscore went 4-for-5 with a three-run home run, a career-high six RBI and a walk. It was his fourth homer of the season. Left fielder Landon Kerkmaz was 2-for-5 with a double. Right fielder George Sheppard homered, walked and drove in another run in three at-bats. Second baseman Isaiah Nava, third baseman Ray Jaramillo, designated hitter Dylan Blyleven and shortstop Alex Rangel each had a hit. Center fielder Caden Liebenstein, catcher Alex Benavides, Blyleven and Rangel all drove in a run.

Brookhaven's Trevor Bane picked up the win in relief, allowing an unearned run on one hit, two walks and a strikeout in two innings.

Richland's Kelton Phillips, Jouseph Gelpi and Trey Smith each had three hits. Noah Pena was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Hernan Zamora also drove in two runs.

Brookhaven plays a single game at Northeast Texas Community College 12 p.m. Monday and a doubleheader at Murray State College 1 p.m. Wednesday.
