Brookhaven Sweeps Pair from DFW Post Grad

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven's baseball team swept a doubleheader from Dallas-Fort Worth Post Grad Monday, 17-5 and 11-1.

The Bears improved to 3-0, winning all three games in the season-opening series. Brookhaven outscored DFW Post Grad, 38-7, in the series.

In Monday's opener, the Bears erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 9-3 lead. Brookhaven scored in each at-bat, including three in the fourth and four in the fifth.

The Bears outhit DFW Post Grad, 10-5, in the first game. Hunter Pope homered, doubled and drove in four runs, and Landon Kerkmaz homered, doubled and had three runs batted in and a stolen base. Mason Gilliam was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Joshua Schroeder doubled and drove in a run. Caden Roeschen was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Caden Sisson drew an RBI walk.

Trevor Rangel picked up the win in a scoreless inning of middle relief, allowing a hit and two walks.

In the second game, the Bears scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to take a 10-1 lead, and the bullpen did the rest in not surrendering a run the rest of the way. The Bears relievers allowed just three base runners over the final three innings.

Kenneth Haynes pitched a perfect third inning, while striking out two batters to collect the win. Aidan Wagley allowed just one walk, and fanned two in a scoreless fourth. Chris Ottinger gave a up a hit and a walk, and struck out three in the shutdown fifth.

Roeschen went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and a stolen base. Dylan Blyleven doubled, singled and drove in two runs in three plate appearances. Brooks Farrell doubled, had three RBI and a stolen base. Isaiah Nava was 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.

Brookhaven outhit DFW Post Grad, 9-4, in the nightcap.

The Bears host The Complete Showcase 12 p.m. Wednesday before heading to Cisco College for a doubleheader Saturday.
