Brookhaven Pulls within Game of Mountain View with 9-3 Victory

DALLAS – Dallas College Brookhaven's baseball team won its third straight conference game, beating host Dallas College Mountain View, 9-3, Wednesday to begin three-game series.

The Bears (11-32, 5-17 Dallas Athletic Conference) pulled within a game of the Lions (18-25, 6-16) in the league standings. The two teams will play again 12 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Brookhaven.

Brookhaven jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the third inning. After Mountain View picked up a run in the bottom of the sixth, the Bears scored in each of their last three at-bats to put the game away.

Bears third baseman Hunter Pope homered twice, doubled and drove in four runs. Shortstop Alex Rangel was 3-for-4 with a stolen base. Center fielder Jacob Vela had two hits, including a solo homer, and a stolen base in four at-bats. Pinch hitter Tucker Simpson doubled twice, and drove in a run in two plate appearances. Left fielder Jaxston Fipps was 2-for-4. First baseman Bo Dinscore had two hits in five trips to the plate.

Mountain View's Archie Beasley was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Anthony Casteneda went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Cedrick Mitchell was 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Brookhaven outhit Mountain View, 16-9.

Bears starter Jacob Leskovsky (2-6) allowed two runs, one earned, six hits and two walks, and struck out a season-high eight batters to earn the win. Hunter Beltran worked the final three innings, allowing one run, two hits and no walks, and had three strikeouts to pick up his first save.
