Bears Win Series with Blazers

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven's baseball team won the final two games of a three-game Dallas Athletic Conference series against Dallas College North Lake Friday and Saturday, 13-10 and 16-12, respectively.

It was the first conference series victory for the Bears, who have won three of their past four games – all in the league. Following Monday's nonconference game at Seminole State College, Brookhaven (10-31, 4-17 DAC) begins a three-game DAC series at Dallas College Mountain View 12 p.m. Wednesday.

In Friday's win over the Blazers, the Bears scored six runs in the eighth inning to overcome a one-run deficit, and held on for the win.

Bears closer Hunter Beltran (1-2) picked up the win on the mound, allowing three runs, two earned, three hits and no walks, and recorded three strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief.

Brookhaven led 7-4 after four innings before North Lake (17-23, 9-12) scored four runs in the top of the seventh to regain control, 8-7. After the Bears responded with their second six-run inning outburst in the eighth, The Blazers added two runs in the ninth, but Beltran didn't surrender the lead.

Bears first baseman Hunter Pope went 3-for-5 with a double. Designated hitter Tucker Simpson was 2-for-4 with a home run, four runs batted in and a walk. Shortstop Alex Rangel went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a walk. Left fielder Jaxton Fipps homered, walked and scored three times in two official at-bats. Third baseman Ray Jaramillo tripled, drove in three runs and walked in two at-bats.

North Lake's Carlos Pirela was 3-for-5 with a double, triple and three RBI. Garrett Gregory went 3-for-5. Danny Berenthy and Noah Angus both had two hits.

In Saturday's series finale, the Bears trailed 10-9 after six innings before the offense exploded. The Bears scored four runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth to take a six-run lead the bullpen didn't relinquish for the second straight day.

Brookhaven reliever Tyler Ramage (2-2) earned the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on a hit and four walks, while recording two strikeouts in 2.2 innings. Trent Corley retired the last batter for the save.

Pope had four hits, including a double, and drove in four runs in six plate appearances. Rangel was 3-for-4 with a walk and three runs scored. Pinch hitter Jacob Scott homered, walked and scored three times. Catcher Luke Batey went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

North Lake's Carter Mach went 4-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Gregory was 4-for-5 with two RBI and a walk. Alex Murphy was 2-for-4 with a walk.
