Baseball Overruns Richland, 17-6

DALLAS – Dallas College Brookhaven's baseball team beat Dallas College Richland, 17-6, Saturday in the final game of a three-game Dallas Athletic Conference series.
It was the second road win of the week for the Bears, who beat National Junior College Athletic Association Division I North Central Texas College, 23-17, five days earlier. The 23 runs in the victory over NCTC is a season-high for Brookhaven. The 17 runs against Richland are the next most this year. Brookhaven's 19 hits in the series finale against Richland is also the team's most this season. It was one more than the 18 the Bears racked up in the win over North Central Texas.
The Bears scored in every inning but the first in Saturday's victory over the Thunderducks. Tied 3-3 after three innings, Brookhaven took the lead for good with a run in the fourth. The Bears put six runs on the board in the top of the ninth to seal the deal.
Brookhaven's Balin Valentine, Ray Jaramillo and Hunter Pope each had three hits, including a double, and a run batted in. Pope had two doubles. Peyton Starr doubled twice, and drove in a run in two plate appearances. Diego Canuelas was 2-for-6 with a triple and four RBI. Luke Batey had two hits and an RBI, and walked once in four at-bats. Tucker Simpson was 1-for-4 with two RBI and two walks.
Bears reliever Nathan Jacobson picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs, one earned, six hits and a walk, while striking out four in 4 2/3 innings. Starter Jason Bonnett went 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs, two earned, on six hits and two walks, and fanned five.
Brookhaven (8-30, 2-16 DAC) opens a three-game series at Dallas College North Lake (16-21, 8-10) noon Wednesday. The Bears will host the Blazers 12 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
