FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer team beat Dallas College Richland 2-0 Wednesday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District championship.
The win sends the Bears (14-1-2) to the NJCAA Division III National Tournament Nov. 11-16 in Herkimer, New York. It is the seventh straight district title for Brookhaven.
Ariana Chavira scored both goals for the Bears. It was her first multi-goal game of the season.
Brookhaven took a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute when Chavira banged home a rebound after a Bears throw-in. Justine Garnica and Addison Hanner had assists.
Five minutes later, Chavira scored again – this time on an unassisted goal to pad the lead to 2-0.
Brookhaven had 11 of its 16 shots in the first half.
Bears goalkeeper Miranda Estrada made one save. It was her ninth solo shutout.
The Bears will be making their ninth trip to the national tournament.
