No. 2 Brookhaven Shuts Out No. 8 Cedar Valley

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Second-ranked Dallas College Brookhaven women's soccer team shut out eighth-ranked Dallas College Cedar Valley, 2-0, Friday.

The win pushed the Bears near the top of the Dallas Athletic Conference standings with a 6-2-3 overall, 4-0-3 league record. Cedar Valley fell 6-3-1, 4-2-1.

Brookhaven's Brisa Hernandez broke a scoreless game in the 39th minute when she found the back of the net on an assist from Mariah Lewis. The Bears took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

It was Hernandez's second goal of the season.

In the 67th minute, Amiah Brown gave Brookhaven an insurance goal when she scored on an assist from Natalia Banda.

It was Brown's first career goal.

Brookhaven outshot Cedar Valley, 19-7. The Bears had 13 shots in the second half.

Bears goalkeeper Brianna Flores made three saves. Suns starter Serena Aldana had four saves. Olivia Reyna stopped seven shots in the second half for the Suns.  

Flores has five shutouts this season, including four in conference play.

Brookhaven plays at Dallas College Mountain View 7 p.m. Tuesday.
